This is the oldest known grip and the only cross grip mallet that has the outer mallet below the inner mallet. The two main figures that wrote about traditional grip are Peter Sadlo (1962- ) and Nancy Zeltsman (1958 - ). It became well known from various Japanese artists that play with that grip, as Keiko Abe (1937- ).
